week dos

For this past week I've been still in the organization phase of Hospitality duties.  I've finalized the Hospitality calendar so now all the dates in there are set for the upcoming months.  Involving more planning, Mary and I are meeting tonight to finalize the "want" list for the swag bag donation items, as well as finalize the businesses we would like to represent our festival.  In order to do this, we both had to research any kind of unique (and rather inexpensive) film related gadget/toy/fun thing we could find. Also, I have made amendments to the donation email format that we used for last year's donations, so now it is ready to be attached to the sponsorship package, ready to be sent out!  We are sending the initial contact emails out tonight/tomorrow morning to these businesses.
In addition to the work for my department, I spent about five hours watching, re-watching, and grading films for the class discussion coming up.  It's so exciting when we get to this part of the class! Deciding the films to be screened, brings us all that much closer to the festival fever we're starting to develop :D

first week's work

It's the beginning to a new semester and my mind is enthralled by memories of last years tremendous event, making me even more anxious for the spring season to arrive.  I like to think of the warming weather as an measurement of the days getting closer and closer towards the festival.  The temperature increase reflects the nearing celebration of all of our accumulating work.

This past week has been a solid example of the amount of work outside the class, Visions entails, yet it also has revived my enthusiasm for my new position. We started the planning of the next few months, by meeting with the After Party Team, the Video Race Team, and Hospitality/Outreach Team.  Here we talked about the individual group projects, as well as got some one-on-one time with Tasha about specifics of what needs to happen on the individual level.  From this, I set on working on the hospitality calendar of important dates and to-do's to help me stay on track.  Also from this I worked on making this blog to reflect on the work I am committing to the class.  In addition to this, I completed the minutes of last class and sent them out via email to the class.  This past weekend I read and scored the submitted abstracts as well.  Altogether this work proves that the course is an upper level class, but it is well worth the effort!  Counting down the days!
